Caring For Your Therapy Table Upholstery
Caring for your Therapy Table Upholstery
Do you want to be the therapy clinic where patients don’t want to spend their hard earned money in, or employees are embarrassed to work?
Walking into clinics that have noticeably worn therapy tables is a deterrent for repeat business. Upholstery cracks, wear spots, uneven foam cushioned areas or even a bad upholstery job can turn your clinic into the one no one recommends their friends to, or wants to go back.
- All therapy tables will need to be reupholstered, eventually.
- Not all upholstery is created equal.
Here are a few tips on several steps you can take to increase the lifespan and beauty of your therapy table.
Choose a massage, physiotherapy or chiropractic table made with good quality material
We recommend tables made with Spirit Millennium fabrics, rated at 1.5 million double rubs. Good fabrics will last longer and are more durable. Many therapy tables are made with mediocre fabrics, which result in greater expense later on when the table tops need to be reupholstered. Not to mention your patients can tell the difference on their skin. We only use Spirit Millennium fabrics when we do our re-upholstery services. It feels and looks quality, and holds up well to clinical environments. Our most popular tables, Kor Innovations, also use Spirit Millennium fabrics.
Use table cleaners that do not contain alcohol or ammonia
These ingredients suck the moisture out of your table fabric. This is a major, or the leading contributor to cracked upholstery. We recommend using soapy water. Of course there will be times when you need to use more potent chemicals, but whenever possible choose a less abrasive cleaner
Do not place a hot pack on a therapy table, ever.
If there is one rule you should follow in your clinic, it should be this one. Clinics that place their hotpacks onto the upholstery can wear through their table tops in as little as 6 months. This gets expensive, very quickly.
Re-Upholster your table sooner than later
When you eventually do see your table tops starting to form cracks, that’s the time to look into getting them re-upholstered. Cracked table tops are a breeding ground for bacteria. Moisture under the fabric will cause mold in the foam which is even more expensive to fix.
